Chicago Deadline
A bit of late-forties noir fluff starring Ida Lupino and
the noble Alan Ladd. Reporter seeking traces of dead woman
falls in love with her en route: a watered-down Laura. However.
This is a movie which is never seen whole and entire, but
always and only in fragments. Therefore, a poignant and tear-stained
masterpiece, a movie that haunts its viewers for as long as
they live and which ever speaks to them in dreams and images
glimpsed, or thought to be glimpsed, out of the corners of
their eyes. If never remembered, likewise never forgotten.
